It's Your Health, Your Body!

Do you eat to live, or do you live to eat? As I ask people that question, most will jokingly answer "I live to eat!" But that is in reality what most of us do. We love to eat, we eat more than we usually should, and most of our activities are centered around food.

Most of us really eat to please our taste buds. However, stop and think about it. Most people barely chew their food, so food is only in the mouth from 5 to 15 seconds, yet it is in the body for 24 hours or more. Does it make sense that we most often only eat to please the taste buds and not fulfill the needs of the body?

Food is for nourishment, building and strenthening of the body. If it can't do that, then we shouldn't be putting it into our mouths. Just eating to please the taste buds really makes no sense when you think about it! So think about your health and how important it is to you. Maybe you won't realize it until you loose it like I did, then you begin to think twice about what and why you eat!

Fighting sweet cravings
Controlling a strong sweet tooth can be the biggest challenge in adopting and sticking with a healthy, low calorie diet. The good news though, is that there are a few tricks you can use to control your sweet cravings and stick to your diet. The cravings for sweets are going to be worse at the start of your new diet, when you first start cutting them out, but that means you’ll have to be really strong for a short period of time, and the less you cheat in the early days, the sooner you’ll be past the withdrawal. Sugar, in whatever form it comes in (sweets or carbs) is an addictive substance for the body, and when you stop feeding the addiction, the cravings will initially intensify. But, once you are past the withdrawal stage, the cravings will be much easier to control, if you even have them at all.
But getting through the withdrawals and detox stage can be a make-or-break point for any new diet. One trick is to drink fruit flavored hot tea. You can purchase boxes of tea bags in any grocery store or coffee shop. It is better to buy the bags and brew them yourself because pre-bottled teas often have sugar added. Simply steep a tea bag in a cup of hot water and enjoy – it will taste sweet, but will have zero calories. This trick should get you through any really intense sugar cravings, and if the tea is decaffeinated it’s another source of hydration which will speed the detox process and get you past the intense cravings faster as well.
Another option is to add sweet potatoes to your diet. So named because they actually taste very sweet, they are also high in vitamins A, B, C, as well as iron, potassium, and low in calories. Eating sweet potatoes will not only help you get past sugar cravings, but will actually help stabilize your blood sugar levels which will make fighting food cravings and losing weight much easier. If you are really struggling with sweet cravings, and a plain sweet potato isn’t enough, you can add just a little bit of butter and tiny sprinkle of brown sugar for a big increase in sweetness and small increase in calories and fat. But try it without adding the butter or brown sugar first – you might surprise yourself. For more information on health, nutrition & exercise please visit http://www.weightsmashers.com
